چکیده
Abstract The field storage of container seedlings is often a necessity after the have been transported from nurseries close to regeneration area. Suboptimal conditions can lead reduced growth or even seedling mortality. Supporting favourable for during requires labour, especially watering seedlings, and therefore increases costs forest regeneration. In this study, we examined effects covering Norway spruce with reflective shading cloth neglecting storage. This was done by measuring drying storage, rooting when planting, subsequent survival performance in two three growing seasons planting. study comprised one-year-old covered no cover (subject rainfall) 2012 2013; additionally, 2013, replicates both treatments were stored where rainfall impeded. stem water potential measured, test carried out, planted weekly over 42 days without watering. As novel finding, results indicate that increased risk grey mould summer led negative regarding post planting development. application directly on cannot be recommended prolong intervals current climatic Southern Finland, high.

Extending the Planting Period of Dormant and Growing Norway Spruce Container Seedlings to Early Summer
In order to make mechanized planting economically viable, the present spring planting period for Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) seedlings in Scandinavia needs to be extended. To evaluate the possibilities to extend the planting period, six field experiments were established in four years during which frozen-stored, dormant seedlings and actively growing seedlings targeted for spring pl...
متن کاملEffect of Thawing Duration and Temperature on Field Performance of Frozen-Stored Norway Spruce Container Seedlings
Increasing use of frozen storage in nurseries at northern latitudes calls for thawing methods that are safe, economical and easy to apply on a large scale. The easiest and most economical method would be to thaw seedlings in the same boxes they were stored in. However, doing this safely requires more knowledge about how long and at what temperatures seedlings should or can be kept in the boxes ...

This study was conducted at a bottomland hardwood site with heavy textured soil in Akyazi, Turkey to determine the effect of initial spacing (3.0 x 3.0, 3.0 x 2.0, 2.5 x 1.6 and 2.5 x 1.2 m) and post-planting treatments (untreated check, moving, hoeing, disking, and hoeing plus disking) on early survival and growth of Fraxinus angustifolia Vahl. One-year old bare-root seedlings (70 +/- 5 cm in ...
